Report: Blue Jays, Cubs, Yankees among teams eyeing Chapman
The free-agent market for Matt Chapman is gaining steam.
The Toronto Blue Jays, Chicago Cubs, and New York Yankees are among six teams that have shown interest in the third baseman, according to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle.
The San Francisco Giants have previously been reported to be pursuing the four-time Gold Glover.
Chapman, 30, went deep 17 times with 54 RBIs and a .755 OPS over 140 games for the Blue Jays last season. Toronto has yet to find a suitable replacement at the hot corner.
The Blue Jays reportedly offered the 2019 All-Star a contract extension for four or five years and over $100 million, but the two sides couldn't reach an agreement.
Meanwhile, the Yankees could significantly improve their defense by signing Chapman to replace DJ LeMahieu, while the Cubs saw Jeimer Candelario join the division-rival Cincinnati Reds.
