D-Backs sign Grichuk to 1-year deal worth reported $2M
The Arizona Diamondbacks signed outfielder Randal Grichuk to a one-year contract that includes a mutual option for 2025, the team announced Saturday.
The deal is worth $2 million in guaranteed money, with a base salary of $1.5 million for Grichuk this season, sources told ESPN's Jeff Passan. The option is worth $6 million with a $500,000 buyout. Grichuk also receives performance bonuses in the agreement.
Grichuk went deep 16 times with 44 RBIs and a .779 OPS over a combined 118 games with the Colorado Rockies and Los Angeles Angels last season. He's hit at least 20-plus homers in five of the 10 years he's played in the majors, including a career-high 31 round-trippers in 2019 with the Toronto Blue Jays.
The 32-year-old will add depth to an Arizona outfield that already includes Corbin Carroll, Alek Thomas, and Lourdes Gurriel Jr.
Grichuk will miss the first part of Cactus League while continuing his recovery from right ankle surgery in January, according to Steve Gilbert of MLB.com. The D-Backs are hopeful he'll be ready for Opening Day.
To make room for Grichuk on the 40-man roster, the Diamondbacks transferred right-hander Drey Jameson to the 60-day injured list. Jameson is currently recovering from elbow surgery.
