The Boston Red Sox signed right-hander Brayan Bello to a six-year contract extension with a 2030 club option, the team announced Thursday.

Bello's deal is worth $55 million guaranteed, while the club option is for $21 million, sources told Kiley McDaniel of ESPN.

Bello projects to be the club's No. 1 starter heading into Opening Day with Lucas Giolito reportedly dealing with a serious elbow injury threatening his campaign.

The 24-year-old Dominican authored a 4.24 ERA with a 1.34 WHIP and 132 strikeouts over 157 innings (28 starts) during his second year in the majors last season.

Bello finished in the 71st percentile in fastball velocity, 76th in walk percentage, and 92nd in ground-ball percentage.
