New York Mets reliever Yohan Ramírez was tossed for throwing near the head of Milwaukee Brewers designated hitter Rhys Hoskins in the seventh inning of Saturday's game.

Hoskins, who had a homer with four RBIs in the contest, was criticized by Mets second baseman Jeff McNeil during Friday's game for a late slide, which prompted the benches to clear.

McNeil added that he has "a little bit of a past" with Hoskins, who spent his first seven seasons with the Mets' longtime NL East rivals, the Philadelphia Phillies.

Following the game, Ramírez told SNY that he wasn't intentionally throwing at Hoskins but simply lost his grip on a sinker. Manager Carlos Mendoza also denied that his team had any intent.

"I know it looks really, really bad. But we're not trying to hit anybody," Mendoza said, according to Tim Britton of The Athletic.

Hoskins was uncertain about the Mets' intent but expressed some skepticism postgame.

"Big leaguers don't miss by 8 feet," the 31-year-old said, according to Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. "Whether or not it was on purpose or not, that's not for me to decide. I really don't care. But this game has had a way of policing itself for many, many, many years. So let's focus on doing it the right way if we're gonna do that."

The 31-year-old let his bat do the talking during the game, belting a two-run round-tripper in the third inning off Mets right-hander Luis Severino to break the game open.

Brewers reliever Abner Uribe motioned at the Mets' dugout to be quiet following the final out of Saturday's 7-6 victory.

The Mets and Brewers wrap up the heated three-game series Sunday.
