The Toronto Blue Jays placed shortstop Bo Bichette on the 10-day injured list with a right calf strain, the team announced Tuesday.

Toronto also promoted top infield prospect Orelvis Martinez and right-hander Ryan Burr and optioned left-hander Brandon Eisert.

Manager John Schneider expects Bichette to return when his 10 days are up, according to Shi Davidi of Sportsnet. He was retroactively placed on the IL dating back to Saturday.

Bichette had been playing through the lingering issue for some time but missed the Blue Jays' last four games due to the ailment.

The 26-year-old's hitting .237/.286/.342 with four home runs and 28 RBIs this season.

Meanwhile, Martinez is Toronto's No. 2-ranked prospect and MLB's 68th overall, according to MLB Pipeline.

Schneider added that he expects the 22-year-old Dominican to play primarily at second base with some possible action at third base.

Martinez, who has never appeared in a big-league game, hit .260/.343/.523 with 16 homers, 14 doubles, and 46 RBIs in 63 games at Triple-A Buffalo this season.

"If he's not in the starting lineup, I think having his bat on the bench is beneficial," Schneider said.
