Report: White Sox likely to trade Crochet after brief extension talks
The Chicago White Sox are aiming to trade ace Garrett Crochet before the July 30 trade deadline, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.
The decision to move the left-hander comes after the White Sox held brief extension talks with Crochet that left the organization not hopeful about an agreement, Nightengale adds.
Crochet is arbitration-eligible for another two seasons and won't reach free agency until the conclusion of the 2026 campaign.
"As far as that stuff goes, I just focus on exactly what I'm doing right now, taking the ball here for the White Sox," Crochet said Sunday, according to Vinnie Duber of CHGO Sports. "Other than that, I don't really think about it."
Crochet is putting together a breakout season in 2024, recording a 3.02 ERA, a 0.93 WHIP, and 141 strikeouts in 101 1/3 innings.
Chicago moved Crochet to the rotation this campaign after he spent the first three years of his career as a reliever. The White Sox drafted Crochet 11th overall in 2020.
