MLB announces 2024 All-Star Game starters

Major League Baseball announced the starters for the 2024 All-Star Game after the final leg of fan voting ended Wednesday.

New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge and Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Bryce Harper had already secured starting spots after amassing the most fan votes in their respective leagues following the first round of voting.

Fan voting is used to determine the starters for non-pitchers. All-Star pitchers and reserves for both leagues will be announced Sunday at 5:30 p.m. ET.

The Midsummer Classic takes place July 16 at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.

American League

Catcher

Rutschman makes back-to-back All-Star appearances after posting career highs in batting average, slugging percentage, and OPS entering Wednesday's contest against the Mariners.

First base

Guerrero earns his fourth All-Star berth in his age-25 season after leading AL first basemen in fWAR, batting average, on-base percentage, and wRC+.

Second base

Altuve heads to the Midsummer Classic for the ninth time thanks to a .308/.357/.471 slash line with 30 extra-base hits in 83 games.

Third base

Ramírez starts at third base for the AL squad after another stellar campaign, where he ranks second in MLB in RBIs and fourth in homers. It's his sixth trip to the All-Star Game.

Shortstop

Henderson beat out Bobby Witt Jr. of the Royals to earn the starting nod thanks to an MVP-caliber first half. The Orioles shortstop has already amassed 6.0 fWAR in 84 games.

Outfield

Judge was the leading vote getter in the AL, which was justified considering the Yankees slugger leads baseball in homers and OPS. His teammate, Soto, has also been tremendous, posting a 1.002 OPS with a league-leading 73 walks. Kwan rounds out the trio thanks to a ridiculous .362 batting average and nine defensive runs saved, which leads all outfielders.

Designated hitter

Alvarez makes his third consecutive All-Star Game appearance thanks to a .910 OPS and 18 homers. He's easily one of the game's most dangerous and intimidating hitters.

National League

Catcher

Contreras beat out injured Phillies backstop J.T. Realmuto to earn the start. The Brewers backstop makes his second appearance at the Midsummer Classic after he started as the NL's designated hitter in 2022.

First base

Harper is expected to be back from injury in early July, which means we'll likely see him play at the All-Star Game. It's the eighth trip for the two-time MVP.

Second base

Marte has been one of the lone bright spots for the underachieving D-Backs, leading his team in runs, hits, doubles, batting average, and OPS. It's Marte's second All-Star appearance.

Third base

Bohm leads the NL in RBIs and has been a big run producer for baseball's best team. This will be the 27-year-old's first trip to the Midsummer Classic.

Shortstop

Turner has only appeared in 46 games this season, but he's done damage when he's been in the lineup (147 OPS+). Surprisingly, the popular shortstop is only making his third All-Star team.

Outfield

Tatis isn't expected to return from a femoral stress reaction injury until the second half, so he'll be replaced by someone else as a starter. Yelich is playing like an MVP again (.329/.403/.500), and Profar has been one of the biggest surprises in the game (.876 OPS) after signing a one-year, $1-million deal with the Padres.

Designated hitter

Was there any doubt Ohtani would get the starting nod? One of the most popular players in baseball history has been elite for the Dodgers during his first year with the club. He leads the NL in homers, slugging percentage, and OPS. This is Ohtani's fourth All-Star Game appearance.
