Report: Orioles keeping tabs on A's Miller, Marlins' Scott

The Baltimore Orioles are eyeing a pair of All-Star closers with the July 30 trade deadline approaching.

Baltimore is in touch with the Oakland Athletics about right-hander Mason Miller and the Miami Marlins regarding left-hander Tanner Scott, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network.

The Athletics would likely require a massive haul of prospects for Miller, who's under team control for five more years after this season. The 25-year-old owns a 2.27 ERA with 0.85 WHIP and an eye-popping 15.9 K/9 over 33 appearances this season. He also ranks in the 100th percentile in fastball velocity, chase percentage, whiff percentage, and strikeout percentage.

Miller recorded the fastest pitch in All-Star Game history when he hit 103.6 mph on the radar gun Tuesday.

Scott, who started his career with the Orioles in 2017 and spent five campaigns with the franchise, has authored a 1.34 ERA with 1.07 WHIP and 45 strikeouts over 40 1/3 innings in 2024. The 29-year-old would likely cost much less to acquire since he's a free agent after this season.

Baltimore is well positioned to make significant additions at the deadline thanks to baseball's No. 1-ranked farm system, which includes the likes of Jackson Holliday, Samuel Basallo, Colton Cowser, Coby Mayo, and Heston Kjerstad.
