Seattle Mariners manager Scott Servais didn't hold back when asked how he felt about his team's performance following Monday's 3-1 loss to the Los Angeles Angels.

"No other way to put it: That was brutal," Servais said, according to MLB.com's Josh Kirshenbaum.

The Mariners wasted a great start from Bryce Miller, who allowed just three hits in seven scoreless innings.

Seattle's bullpen surrendered three earned runs in the final two frames, while its offense failed to show up in the contest, striking out 14 times. The Mariners have one of the league's worst offenses, with a combined .214 batting average.

Monday's loss, the Mariners' 10th in their last 16 games, has them tied with the Houston Astros for top spot in the AL West division. The Texan club looked like it had no chance of challenging for the division after a rough start to the campaign.

"It depends on where you want to be 60 games from now. Do you want to be playing playoff baseball, or do you want to be driving home?" Servais said of the remainder of the season.

"Sixty games. We talk about it being a marathon. It's getting to be close to a sprint. Not quite there yet, but getting close. ... You've got to show up to compete and be ready to take it every night. If you don't, this league doesn't care - they'll just walk on by you."

To make matters worse, shortstop J.P. Crawford will be placed on the injured list after suffering a hairline fracture in his right pinky finger during Monday's game. First baseman Ty France's locker was cleared out following the contest after he was reportedly claimed on waivers.

Star outfielder Julio Rodríguez is also considered day-to-day after spraining his ankle.
