Report: Red Sox not ruling out trading Jansen, Pivetta, O'Neill

The Boston Red Sox are in the thick of the American League playoff race, but that doesn't mean they aren't willing to trade some of their players before July 30.

Boston hasn't ruled out the possibility of dealing veterans such as Kenley Jansen, Nick Pivetta, and Tyler O'Neill, who are all on expiring contracts, sources told The Boston Globe's Alex Speier.

All three players are having stellar campaigns and would likely net the Red Sox some nice pieces in a bare seller's market, helping grow a farm system that's beginning to look strong thanks to top 100 prospects like Marcelo Mayer, Roman Anthony, and Kyle Teel.

However, Red Sox players and manager Alex Cora have been clear in their desire to add pieces rather than sell. The skipper, whose contract is also up at the end of this season, said in June he'd like the Red Sox front office to "get greedy" at the trade deadline.

Entering Tuesday, the Red Sox are only two games back of the Kansas City Royals for the final AL wild-card spot, but they're also in the midst of a four-game losing streak coming out of the All-Star break.
