Glasnow feels bad for Vargas, White Sox: Losing is 'a disease'

Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Tyler Glasnow feels awful for Miguel Vargas after his former teammate was traded to the Chicago White Sox.

"I don't mean to laugh, but I feel so bad for him," Glasnow told Chris Rose Sports after a somber photo of Vargas went viral during the 21-game losing streak of the White Sox.

Vargas was traded to the White Sox as part of a three-team deal involving the Dodgers and St. Louis Cardinals last month. In the process, the 23-year-old went from one of MLB's best teams to a club on pace to set the record for losses in a season.

"He is the man. I love that guy. He's got the best personality ever. One of the funniest people I've ever played with. I loved having him around and then seeing this. That sucks," Glasnow said.

The transition to playing for a losing team appears to have affected Vargas. He's slashed .083/.214/.194 with 13 strikeouts in 10 games since joining the White Sox. This comes after he posted a .735 OPS (106 OPS+) with the Dodgers.

"Life in baseball in general is so much better when you're on a winning team," Glasnow said. "Being on a losing team sucks ... winning cures everything and losing is like a disease that comes in and puts everyone in a bad mood."

The White Sox enter Monday with a 28-91 record. The most losses in a season during the modern era belongs to the 1962 New York Mets, who finished their 160-game campaign with 120.
