Danny Jansen will become the first player in MLB history to appear in the same game for two teams on Monday.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora confirmed Friday that Jansen - acquired by Boston from Toronto via trade in July - will catch the remainder of a suspended game from June 26 between the two clubs, thus earning him a special place in MLB history.

Here's how the situation will play out:

Jansen, who was batting for the Blue Jays with a 0-1 count at the time of the rain delay that led to the game being suspended, will need to be replaced by a pinch hitter.

However, since then-Red Sox catcher Reese McGuire is also no longer on Boston's active roster, Jansen will replace him behind the plate.

Jansen won't bat or catch for the Blue Jays on Monday when the suspended game resumes. However, he'll appear on the scorecard as having started the game with Toronto and thus be credited with appearing for both teams in the same game.

This scenario hasn't occurred since MLB formed in 1903.

The Blue Jays will need to make several other lineup changes, as Bo Bichette is currently on the injured list with a calf strain, while Justin Turner, Isiah Kiner-Falefa, and Kevin Kiermaier have all since been traded.

Boston, meanwhile, will need to replace Dominic Smith (released by the club Tuesday) and Enmanuel Valdez (currently playing in Triple-A) in its lineup with players currently on the club's active roster.

The June 26 content was suspended tied 0-0 with one out in the top of the second inning.
