Colton Cowser is no longer the odds-on favorite to win the American League Rookie of the Year award with the regular season nearing a close.

The Orioles rookie was -250 to earn the honor - which equates to an implied probability of 71.4% - last week and had a firm grasp on the award in the eyes of the betting market. Those odds have lengthened significantly to +225, an implied probability of only 30.8%.

Cowser was replaced atop the oddsboard by Yankees catcher Austin Wells, now the +135 favorite. His odds have shortened slightly from last week's price of +185.

The biggest move belongs to Wells' teammate, Luis Gil. The Yankees pitcher was +10000 last week, but his odds have shortened drastically to +150 after back-to-back strong starts. Gil has allowed only one run and six hits while striking out 12 batters in 11 innings over his last two outings.

Cowser hasn't been lighting the world on fire over the past week, but that's not the sole reason for the shifts in the betting market. He's only received 9.6% of the bets placed on the market and 5% of the handle (money wagered) since Sept. 4.

Meanwhile, Wells has attracted 28.9% of the bets and 73.1% of the handle, and Gil has accumulated 47.4% of the bets and 20.4% of the handle over the same time frame.

Bettors have been far more eager to back either of the Yankees rookies instead of Cowser, resulting in an overhaul at the top of the betting board with just over two weeks remaining in the regular season.
