The St. Louis Cardinals announced Monday that Chaim Bloom will replace John Mozeliak as the club's president of baseball operations after the 2025 season, according to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

The Cardinals added that Bloom signed a five-year contract that begins in 2026.

Bloom, who spent the past year examining all levels of the organization, will be in charge of revamping St. Louis' player development system in 2025, according to John Denton of MLB.com. The team's minor-league system ranked in the bottom third among MLB clubs over the last two years.

Current general manager Michael Girsch will be moved to vice president of special projects, per Lynn Worthy of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Manager Oliver Marmol will remain in his current role in 2025.

Mozeliak said the club expects its major-league payroll to go down, according to Goold.

The move indicates the team could be willing to move the high-end salaries of stars such as Sonny Gray, Nolan Arenado, and Willson Contreras.

St. Louis is reportedly expected to allow 2022 NL MVP Paul Goldschmidt to walk in free agency.

The Cardinals finished 83-79 this season but failed to make the playoffs for a second straight year amid dwindling attendance numbers.
