Report: Rockies planning to lower payroll in 2025
The Colorado Rockies are expecting to lower their team payroll for the 2025 season, sources told Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post.
The Rockies had the 17th-highest payroll in the league this season at $147 million. They're currently projected to carry $116 million in salary commitments for the 2025 campaign.
The impetus for a lower payroll stems from lower television revenue as a result of the shutdown of the Rockies' regional TV network, Saunders adds.
The Rockies struggled through another sub-.500 season in 2024, finishing with a 61-101 record.
Veteran outfielder Kris Bryant is Colorado's highest-paid player and is under contract for another four seasons for $108 million as part of a seven-year, $182-million deal he signed in 2022. Bryant has struggled to stay healthy and productive in three seasons for the Rockies, appearing in just 159 games with 17 home runs, 60 RBIs, and a .713 OPS.
