Report: Astros contemplating trading Pressly
The Houston Astros have had internal conversations about moving reliever Ryan Pressly, sources told Chandler Rome of The Athletic.
The discussions indicate the Astros could be looking to clear payroll to stay under the first luxury-tax threshold, notes Rome, who adds the team is around $10 million below that line after projected arbitration salaries
Pressly, who's set to make $14 million in 2025, has a no-trade clause.
The 35-year-old right-hander posted a 3.49 ERA with 1.34 WHIP and 58 strikeouts over 59 appearances in 2024. He owns a 2.81 ERA with 111 saves and 11.1 K/9 over the last seven years with the Astros, which includes two All-Star nods and a 2022 World Series ring.
Pressly could be the latest high-leverage reliever to join a trade market that already reportedly includes St. Louis Cardinals' All-Star Ryan Helsley and Milwaukee Brewers closer Devin Williams.
