Report: Rays' Springs, Fairbanks generating trade interest
The Tampa Bay Rays are receiving trade inquires about starting pitcher Jeffrey Springs and closer Pete Fairbanks, according to Jon Morosi of MLB Network.
Springs, who signed a four-year, $31-million extension in January 2023, is owed $10.5 million in each of 2025 and 2026.
The 32-year-old left-hander authored a 3.27 ERA with a 1.36 WHIP and 37 strikeouts over 33 innings (seven starts) last season after returning from Tommy John surgery.
Meanwhile, Fairbanks is under contract for the 2025 campaign after also inking an extension in January 2023 for three years and $12 million. The 30-year-old right-hander amassed a 3.57 ERA with 23 saves and a career-low 8.7 K/9 across 46 appearances in 2024.
The Rays missed the playoffs for the first time since 2018 after sporting the third-lowest payroll in the majors.
