Freeman expected to be ready for spring following ankle surgery

The Los Angeles Dodgers announced first baseman Freddie Freeman underwent right ankle surgery Thursday to debride and remove loose bodies.

The Dodgers said Freeman is expected to able to take part in baseball activities when spring training begins.

The procedure was performed by Dr. Kenneth Jung in Los Angeles.

Freeman, 35, was named the World Series MVP after helping the Dodgers win a championship despite missing several games in the playoffs due to his wonky ankle.

The eight-time All-Star hit 22 homers with 89 RBIs and an .854 OPS over 147 regular-season games last season.
