Report: Yankees snag Goldschmidt on 1-year, $12.5M deal
The New York Yankees and first baseman Paul Goldschmidt agreed to a one-year, $12.5-million contract, sources told Jeff Passan of ESPN.
There are no options in Goldschmidt’s pact, reports Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.
The addition of Goldschmidt means newcomer Cody Bellinger can play in the outfield with the former manning first base.
Goldschmidt hit 22 homers with 65 RBIs and a .716 OPS over 154 games in 2024 for the St. Louis Cardinals in what was the worst full season of his 14-year career. However, the 37-year-old was still in the 92nd percentile for hard-hit percentage and 82nd percentile in average exit velocity, according to Baseball Savant.
The 2022 NL MVP has recorded 362 long balls with 1,187 RBIs and an .892 OPS en route to becoming a seven-time All-Star and five-time Silver Slugger over his career. He's also a four-time Gold Glover.
The Yankees have now added big names such as Max Fried, Devin Williams, Bellinger, and Goldschmidt after Juan Soto bolted to the New York Mets in free agency.
