Report: Mets met with All-Star closer Scott
The New York Mets are eyeing the top closer available in free agency.
New York's front office met with All-Star left-hander Tanner Scott, sources told Will Sammon of The Athletic.
The club is reportedly seeking one to two relievers on the open market.
The Mets already employ star closer Edwin Díaz, but the rest of the bullpen doesn't look as intimidating, with José Buttó, Reed Garrett, and Dedniel Núñez currently projected to work in high-leverage spots. Díaz can also use his opt-out clause to test free agency after the 2025 season.
Meanwhile, the Boston Red Sox are also interested in signing Scott, according to MassLive's Chris Cotillo. The Los Angeles Dodgers are reportedly one of the other teams that's been connected to the 30-year-old this winter.
Scott authored a 1.75 ERA with 22 saves and 84 strikeouts over a combined 72 innings between the Miami Marlins and San Diego Padres in 2024.
