Report: Cubs eyeing Astros' Pressly
The Chicago Cubs are among several teams interested in trading for Houston Astros reliever Ryan Pressly, a source told Ari Alexander of KPRC 2 Houston.
The Toronto Blue Jays and an unknown West Coast club have also inquired about Pressly, per Chandler Rome, Sahadev Sharma, and Patrick Mooney of The Athletic.
However, Pressly hasn't waived his no-trade clause, according to Alexander.
The righty has stated that he is disinclined to go to a team in the East or West divisions, making a trade with the Jays unlikely, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post.
The Astros could also increase their chances of re-signing free-agent third baseman Alex Bregman if the club moves Pressly to create financial flexibility, Heyman reports.
Houston has reportedly been shopping the 36-year-old since November.
Meanwhile, the potential addition of Pressly could give Chicago a veteran presence in high-leverage situations to pair with young closer Porter Hodge.
Pressly, who's set to make $14 million in 2025, posted a 3.49 ERA with a 1.34 WHIP and 58 strikeouts over 59 appearances in 2024. He owns a 2.81 ERA with 111 saves and 11.1 K/9 over the last seven years with the Astros, which includes two All-Star nods and a 2022 World Series ring.
