Kyle Tucker looks like he's primed to be the crown jewel of free agency next offseason.
The Chicago Cubs and the All-Star outfielder aren't currently negotiating a contract extension, sources told Robert Murray of FanSided.
However, the two sides could engage in contract talks this summer, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post.
The reports come on the heels of rumors the Cubs and Tucker had discussed a new deal that would prevent the 28-year-old from hitting the open market.
Tucker is off to a torrid start this season, slashing .318/.419/.636 with six homers, 21 RBIs, and four stolen bases over 22 games. He was traded to Chicago over the winter after spending the first seven years of his career with the Houston Astros.
