The San Francisco Giants designated first baseman LaMonte Wade Jr. for assignment and signed first baseman Dominic Smith, who will be active for Wednesday's game against the San Diego Padres.

The Giants also DFA'd catcher Sam Huff, optioned infielder Christian Koss, and called up outfielder Daniel Johnson and catcher Andrew Knizner in a big roster shake-up.

Giants president of baseball operations Buster Posey hopes the shuffle can spark his scuffling team, which entered play Wednesday having lost nine of 14.

"It's time to go," Posey said, according to Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area. "I think we all believe we're better than we've been with the bats the last two to three weeks. It's time to go."

Wade, who started 41 games at first this season, has one homer with 15 RBIs and a .546 OPS across 50 contests. The 31-year-old slashed .248/.352/.415 with a combined 51 long balls, 161 RBIs, and a 115 wRC+ from 2021-2024.

Smith joins San Francisco after opting out of a minor-league deal with the New York Yankees on Sunday. The 29-year-old has gone deep 64 times with 259 RBIs and a .717 OPS over eight seasons split between with the New York Mets, Washington Nationals, Boston Red Sox, and Cincinnati Reds.
