D-Backs' Carroll going on IL with wrist fracture
Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll will be placed on the injured list with a chip fracture in his left wrist, manager Torey Lovullo announced Monday, according to team reporter Jody Jackson.
Carroll is still awaiting word on what direction he will have to take as part of the recovery process for the injury.
The D-Backs are seeking multiple medical opinions, per Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic.
The 2023 All-Star hasn't played since he was hit by a pitch on the hand last Wednesday against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Losing Carroll for an extended period of time would be a huge blow for the D-Backs. The 24-year-old has 20 homers with 44 RBIs, 10 stolen bases, and a .914 OPS over 72 games this season en route to becoming an NL MVP candidate.
Third baseman Eugenio Suárez (hand contusion) and first baseman Josh Naylor (shoulder discomfort) also exited Monday's 10-0 win against the Chicago White Sox.
"We've taken on a lot, there's no denying that," Lovullo said. "A lot of teams have; I don't want any team to feel sorry for us. But it's our turn to go out there and figure out how to get the job done and that's what my main focus is right now."
Arizona (40-38) sits fourth in the NL West but are just 2.5 games out of a wild-card spot.
