The Atlanta Braves picked up right-hander Erick Fedde and cash from the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for a player to be named later or cash, the clubs announced Sunday.

The Braves made the trade for Fedde after transferring starter Grant Holmes to the 60-day injured list with an elbow injury. Atlanta now has all five members of its starting rotation from the Opening Day roster sidelined.

The Cardinals will cover the majority of what remains of Fedde's $7.5-million salary, a source told Alden Gonzalez of ESPN.

Fedde will make his Braves debut Tuesday against the Kansas City Royals, according to Ken Rosenthal of the Athletic.

Fedde was designated for assignment Wednesday. The 32-year-old owns a 5.22 ERA and 1.51 WHIP with 63 strikeouts over 101 2/3 innings (20 starts) in 2025. He authored a career-best 3.30 ERA with 7.8 K/9 across 177 1/3 innings (31 starts) between the Cardinals and Chicago White Sox last year.

Holmes was originally placed on the 15-day IL on Sunday but he will now likely miss the reason of the season. Reigning NL Cy Young winner Chris Sale, Reynaldo López, Spencer Schwellenbach, and AJ Smith-Shawver are also all dealing with long-term ailments.

Atlanta sits a season-low 16 games under .500 during a nightmare 2025 season plagued by underperformance and injuries.
