Nationals DFA Lowe, reinstate Crews after almost 3-month absence

The Washington Nationals designated first baseman Nathaniel Lowe for assignment Thursday.

Lowe was the highest-paid player ($10.3 million) on the active roster coming into the campaign after an offseason trade with the Texas Rangers. He went on to produce the worst numbers of his seven-year career.

The 30-year-old recorded 16 homers, 68 RBIs, and a .665 OPS over 119 games with the Nationals. He's still arbitration-eligible through 2026.

Lowe was a 2022 Silver Slugger and 2023 Gold Glover with the Rangers.

Outfielder Dylan Crews was also reinstated from the 60-day injured list after being out since mid-May with an oblique injury. The 2023 No. 2 pick entered this season as one of the NL Rookie of the Year favorites before his extended absence.
