Report: Multiple teams interested in Bichette as 2B or 3B
Free-agent shortstop Bo Bichette could be playing a new position in 2026.
Bichette has garnered interest from multiple MLB clubs that view the two-time All-Star as a second or third baseman, according to Jon Morosi of MLB Network, who adds those teams already have established shortstops.
The majority of interest surrounding Bichette in the open market is at shortstop, reports Morosi.
The 27-year-old played at second for the Toronto Blue Jays during the World Series after a knee sprain he suffered in early September limited his movement in the field. The Fall Classic marked Bichette's first appearance at the keystone position in his seven-year career. He's never played at the hot corner in the big leagues.
Bichette finished last in the majors for outs above average while making 130 starts at shortstop in 2025. He also placed in the 36th percentile for arm strength.
Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins has already said his team will attempt to re-sign Bichette, who will go through free agency with a qualifying offer attached to him. Bichette has publicly stated his desire to remain in Toronto.
He went deep 18 times with a career-high 44 doubles, 94 RBIs, and an .840 OPS during the regular season before slashing .348/.444/.478 with one homer and six RBIs in the World Series.
