Report: D-Backs shopping Marte; Jays, Phillies checked in
The Arizona Diamondbacks are actively listening to trade offers for All-Star second baseman Ketel Marte, sources told Jon Morosi of MLB Network.
The Toronto Blue Jays and Philadelphia Phillies are among the multiple teams that have checked in on Marte, reports Morosi, who adds a deal isn't close.
Marte's contract includes a limited no-trade clause. However, the Blue Jays and Phillies aren't on the list of clubs the 2024 NL MVP finalist would need to approve a move to, reports Morosi.
Toronto is a potential fit for the 32-year-old if the team decides to keep Andrés Giménez at shortstop with Bo Bichette testing free agency. Giménez, one of the best defensive players in baseball, moved from second to short in September and throughout the Blue Jays' World Series run after Bichette injured his knee.
Marte's bat would also replace Bichette's offensive production. The former went deep 28 times with 72 RBIs and an .893 OPS over 126 games in 2025.
Philadelphia could use Marte as an upgrade over Bryson Stott, who owns a career 93 wRC+ over four years in the majors, and to help replace the potential loss of free-agent slugger Kyle Schwarber. The Phillies were bounced early in the playoffs in each of the last two years despite back-to-back NL East titles.
Marte reportedly rubbed some D-Backs teammates the wrong way by missing games and asking for days off during key stretches of seasons. He publicly apologized in August to try to clear the air after manager Torey Lovullo and shortstop Geraldo Perdomo came to his defense.
Marte is owed $92 million over the next five years with a 2031 player option after signing an extension in April.
