New York Yankees right-hander Luis Gil will begin the 2026 season in Triple-A, the club announced Tuesday, according to Greg Joyce of the New York Post.
Gil will continue to stay built up until the Yankees need a fifth starter for their rotation, which could happen April 11 against the Tampa Bay Rays.
The 27-year-old authored a 4.66 ERA with 1.29 WHIP and 24 strikeouts over 19 1/3 innings during spring training.
Gil, the 2024 AL Rookie of the Year, owns a career 3.50 ERA with 9.5 K/9 and 4.9 BB/9 across 242 innings (47 starts) since debuting in 2021.
Cade Winquest, Brent Headrick, and Jake Bird were the final players to make the Yankees' Opening Day roster.
