The Houston Astros acquired center fielder Daulton Varsho from the Toronto Blue Jays for right-hander Spencer Arrighetti, the clubs announced Monday.
The Blue Jays are expected to cover a portion of Varsho's remaining salary, a source told Chandler Rome of The Athletic. He's earning $10.75 million this year.
The 30-year-old will be in the lineup for the Astros on Monday when they start a three-game series against Toronto at Daikin Park, according to Space City Home Network's Julia Morales.
Varsho acknowledged the last 24 hours were a whirlwind for him, as he also said goodbye to Kevin Gausman after Toronto dealt his former teammate to the Chicago Cubs on Sunday.
"I felt it last night with Gausman on the plane. We broke down, and he cried with me and George (Springer)," Varsho said, according to Keegan Matheson of MLB.com.
Varsho, a pending free agent and 2024 Gold Glover, has seven homers with 26 RBIs and a .682 OPS over 99 games this season. Defensively, he sits in the 87th percentile for outs above average.
Arrighetti, 26, has authored a 4.60 ERA with 1.34 WHIP and 87 strikeouts over 88 innings (17 starts) this year.
