Seattle Mariners reliever Gabe Speier received a three-game suspension and a fine of an undisclosed amount for intentionally throwing at Detroit Tigers second baseman Gleyber Torres during Wednesday's game, MLB announced Thursday.
Speier is appealing the suspension, which means he's eligible to play until the process has been completed.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson was also handed a one-game ban and fined an undisclosed amount. The skipper will serve his punishment during Thursday's finale of the series.
Speier hit Torres in the eighth inning of Seattle's 4-2 win. The incident prompted the benches to clear, but no punches were thrown. The left-hander and Wilson were ejected during the fracas.

The Mariners appeared to take exception after Cal Raleigh was hit in the seventh.
"I guess they protected Raleigh," Torres said postgame, according to Jason Beck of MLB.com. "I don't think we hit Raleigh on purpose. But that's baseball. That's their guy and I know they try to protect him."
He added: "I don't try to fight with nobody. I'm not that type of guy. It is what it is. It's all good."
Mariners starter Bryan Woo also hit three other Tigers earlier in the game.
