The framework for a potential deal involving Jeff Samardzija is reportedly taking shape.
Sources: If the White Sox do deal for Jeff Samardzija, return would be Marcus Semien and prospects. A's would slot Semien in at shortstop.

The White Sox appear to be the front-runners to acquire Samardzija, and sending back Semien the other way would fulfill a need at shortstop for general manager Billy Beane.
Multiple reports from CBS Sports' Jon Heyman and Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal suggest a deal is close to being completed.
If A's trade Samardzija to White Sox, it's not expected to be announced tonight. Beane did joke earlier he'd try to spread out news for us.

Beane has already dealt Josh Donaldson and Brandon Moss, and signed Billy Butler this offseason, making him one of the most active GMs to this point.
Rosenthal also anticipates the White Sox will still pursue closer David Robertson, if and when the trade is made is official.
Samardzija, who went 7-13 with a sparkling 2.99 ERA in 33 starts last season, would potentially join a rotation that already boasts Chris Sale and Jose Quintana.
