The Baltimore Orioles dove into the international free-agent market Wednesday, signing Korean outfielder Hyun-soo Kim to a two-year deal, worth $7 million, Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun reports. The deal is pending a physical.
Kim joins slugger Byung-ho Park, who signed a multi-year deal with the Minnesota Twins on Dec. 1, as recent Korean imports to make a move to MLB.
The 27-year-old Kim has a history of providing a high on-base percentage, and could provide the Orioles with a nice low-cost addition to their outfield.
"He doesn't have raw power like Park or (Dae-ho) Lee," one scout said, "but he's exactly what teams are looking for. He's just great at putting bat on ball. He's got a (Kansas City) Royals-type offensive profile."
Kim spent the last 10 seasons with the Doosan Bears, hitting .326/.438/.541 with 28 home runs in 2015.
