Braves hire Andruw Jones as special assistant
The Atlanta Braves have hired former outfielder Andruw Jones as a special assistant to baseball operations, the team announced Monday.
Jones, who was working with the club as a special instructor this spring, will be primarily focusing on assisting Braves outfielders during the regular season, as well as assisting with international initiatives.
"I'm excited to be back with the Braves organization," Jones said. "This is where I began my career and I'm looking forward to working with the young players and watching them develop."
Jones signed as an amateur free agent with the Braves in 1993 and played for the organization from 1996-2005. He earned five All-Star nods during his tenure with the club and swatted a franchise-record 51 homers in 2005 to finish as the runner up in National League MVP voting.
The slugger will also be inducted into the Braves Hall of Fame on Aug. 19 prior to a game against the Washington Nationals at Turner Field.
