Danish Super League leaders FC Midtjylland have proposed hosting drive-in matchday viewing for supporters at the club's MCH Arena as the football world plans for fixtures to be played behind closed doors amid the coronavirus outbreak.
"The empty stands should not separate us when the 3F Super League and our pursuit of the gold resume," a club statement read, per ESPN UK. "We therefore invite LIVE drive-in football at MCH Arena."
Midtjylland's plan would permit 2,000 cars parked around the MCH Arena to watch matches on two big screens. The two-time Danish league champs hope up to 10,000 fans would be present, adding that plans include having the audio from TV commentary available on a specific frequency.
"In the coming time when we unfortunately have to play the Super League without spectators, we are working hard to create the best possible experience," club marketing and support director Preben Rokkjaer said.
"(Drive-in football) will go a long way to giving something back to the region and our many loyal fans," Rokkjaer continued.
The Danish SuperLiga was suspended in mid-March with Midtjylland already qualified for one of six championship round positions as part of the league's split-season format.
With the club uncertain if, or when, the season will resume, they've shifted their focus to finding a solution for rules which may forbid supporters from entering stadiums amid fears of sparking a second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.
"We have a stated goal of creating the best stadium experience and coronavirus doesn't change that, it just provides some other preconditions. We are in close dialogue with the police, the Herning Municipality, and MCH to create a safe framework and security for everyone," Rokkjaer added.
