Toronto FC sack Armas following dismal start to season

The only thing Chris Armas has to show for his brief tenure with Toronto FC is one victory in 11 MLS matches.

The Reds announced Sunday that Armas had been relieved of head coaching duties with immediate effect - one day after the team suffered a shock 7-1 defeat to D.C. United.

TFC have now lost six matches on the spin, are winless in their last seven, and have conceded 17 goals in their last five outings under Armas.

Assistant coach Javier Perez will take charge of Wednesday's match against the New England Revolution.

The club hired Armas in mid-January to replace Greg Vanney, who took the top job with the LA Galaxy after establishing himself as the most successful manager in Toronto FC history.

Armas, 48, previously managed the New York Red Bulls, which he guided to the Supporters' Shield in 2018.

Toronto FC currently sit dead-last in the MLS on five points and a league-worst negative-14 goal differential after 11 matches played. The team was also eliminated from the CONCACAF Champions League after losing 4-1 to Mexican side Cruz Azul over two legs.
