Galaxy star Puig will miss MLS Cup due to torn ACL
LA Galaxy talisman Riqui Puig will miss the 2024 MLS Cup versus the New York Red Bulls after suffering a torn ACL in his left knee in the Western Conference Final, the team announced.
Puig sustained the injury in the second half of the Galaxy's victory over the Seattle Sounders but stayed on the pitch for more than 30 minutes and set up Dejan Joveljic's 85th-minute winner.
The Spaniard's absence is a massive blow for the Galaxy, who are seeking a record-extending sixth MLS title.
The 25-year-old has been the club's key creative fulcrum since joining from La Liga giants Barcelona in August 2022. He recorded 17 goals and 20 assists in 36 matches in all competitions this season and added four goals and four assists in four outings in the 2024 MLS Cup playoffs.
The Galaxy host the Red Bulls on Dec. 7 at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.
