Report: Seattle's Obafemi Martins nearing move to Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua
Flush with cash on the heels of a smash-and-grab winter transfer period, several Chinese clubs have reportedly expressed interest in Seattle Sounders striker Obafemi Martins, with Shanghai Shenhua reportedly closing in on a move for the forward.
Martins, 31, is one of several MLS players attracting the desires of clubs in the Chinese top-flight, according to a report from ESPN FC.
The Chinese Super League transfer window closes Feb. 26, and the former Birmingham City forward's options are limited. Each of the 16 sides are limited to five foreign-born players on their roster - one of which must be from Asia.
Just four of the 16 clubs have space for an international player after a transfer window that saw the likes of Ramires, Jackson Martinez, and Alex Teixeira head east for lucrative contracts and footballing obscurity.
Martins joined the Sounders in 2013 from Levante, and has 40 goals coupled with 23 assists in 80 appearances while paired up top with U.S. international Clint Dempsey.
