Orlando City signs former Brazilian international Julio Baptista
Orlando City has signed former Brazilian international striker Julio Baptista as a Discovery Signing, the club announced Wednesday after captain Kaka confirmed the move via social media.
Baptista, 34, joins the club after scoring 163 goals in 526 appearances across his club career, which included stints at Roma, Arsenal, and Real Madrid. Nicknamed "The Beast," Baptista played alongside Kaka for the Brazilian national team and now joins his friend and teammate in MLS.
"Julio is a strong, physical, and tactical player who will provide us with more depth and options in the forward positions," Lions head coach Adrian Heath said in a statement. "We enjoyed having him train with us earlier this month, and are very pleased with the decision to bring him on board full time."
He'll have to compete for a starting spot up top with Cyle Larin, though Baptista is versatile and has played in various positions in midfield, too.
