D.C. United signs Roberto Mancini's son Andrea

D.C. United announced Sunday that it has signed Italian midfielder/forward Andrea Mancini, son of Inter Milan manager Roberto.

Mancini, 23, is the youngest son of the former Italian international, and is a product of both Inter and Manchester City's academies.

"Andrea impressed us in preseason with his technical proficiency and tactical understanding," United general manager Dave Kasper told the MLS's official website.

"We look forward to seeing him develop with the rest of our group."

Mancini last played with Hungarian first division side Szombathelyi Halidas, and will now occupy an International Spot on gaffer Ben Olsen's roster.

The four-time MLS champs are looking to bounce back from last season's quarter-finals defeat to the New York Red Bulls, though the start of the 2016 campaign has been anything but straightforward.

United sit second from bottom in the east with two draws and two losses in four matches with a league-worst goal differential of minus-6.

As per MLS policy, terms of the deal were not announced.
