10 best quotes from McGregor-Diaz press conference

Mark J. Rebilas / USA TODAY

Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz met with the media Thursday for a press conference promoting their highly anticipated rematch set for UFC 202 on Aug. 20.

As always, the two superstars taking center stage generated a number of particularly notable quotes.

Here's a look at the day's best:

McGregor on his response to the UFC losing the main fight from the card he was supposed to headline:

I could sit up here and say 'Well, well, well...' But I am a successful human being and successful human beings don't celebrate in the adversity or misfortune of others. I wish Jon well, I wish everyone backstage well. I know they're running around like headless chickens trying to get everything together. But all I missed was a press conference. If I look at the facts, the main event of the fight and the co-main event of the fight weren't even at that press conference. So it is what it is. Aug. 20 is my date. UFC 202, the real 200. And I will have my redemption.

McGregor on preparing for Diaz:

Usually, I don't prepare for a specific opponent and the reasons are clear to everybody. Everyone I face pulls out. They pull out all the time. Last minute pull outs have been a staple in my career. So I just carried on training. Even though I was preparing for Dos Anjos in the last contest, I didn't even bring a southpaw into the camp. So this time I'm preparing for a tall, lanky, ugly, Mexican southpaw.

McGregor on fighting at UFC 200 on Saturday:

I'm here. And I'm in shape. All they gotta do is ask.

McGregor on the negotiation breakdown ahead of UFC 200:

What I would have done differently was communicate a little bit better. I messed up the way I communicated it. I think if I had reached out and said it the way I should have said it, man to man, and not in public, it would have played a little bit better. I feel I played it a bit wrong, but they also played it wrong. I've done an awful lot for the company, I feel I carried 2015 on my back. I feel like the reason there's a $4.2-billion price tag on the company is because of me. I believe that's what the Chinese estimated my net worth - $4.2 billion. I feel I deserved a little bit of leeway, but I have to understand that I didn't communicate my point well.

McGregor on his future:

I'll beat Nate, get that win back, dominate my division again, and then we'll talk (about) the trilogy fight with Nate. I believe this will be a trilogy.

McGregor on whether UFC 200 is the biggest event in history:

It won't take UFC 196 off the top spot and it certainly won't take UFC 202 off the top spot.

Diaz on whether he was surprised by Jon Jones' positive test:

Everybody's on steroids.

Diaz couldn't hear questions from media due to problems with sound system:

This arena is beautiful but these fucking microphones suck! I can't hear shit!

Diaz on not having to fight McGregor on short notice:

I should be better if I can prepare for a fight.

Dana White on McGregor and Diaz's lateness for press conference:

I'm not surprised, motherf***er.
