Robbie Lawler didn't make any excuses following his shocking loss to Tyron Woodley at UFC 201 on Saturday night.

The now-former welterweight champion credited his fellow American Top Team competitor during his postfight press conference, giving Woodley credit for the power punch he threw in the opening round.

"He caught me with the ol' T-Wood bomb," Lawler said, according to Dave Doyle of MMAFighting.com. "I think it's just a guy who took advantage of a big punch and rocked me and jumped on and finished the job."

Lawler also explained the technical error on his part, which led to the knockdown and eventual early stoppage.

"He threw a jab, and I went to parry the jab, and obviously in hindsight you wouldn't want to do that," Lawler said. "Maybe you would want to circle over to the other way and then be further away too and maybe he wouldn't have touched me with his right hand. There's a whole bunch of stuff I could have done and didn't."

The loss ends Lawler's five-fight win streak and drops his career record to 27-11 (1).

Woodley, meanwhile, moves to 16-3 with his third consecutive victory. As for his next opponent, the new champion is seeking the big-money payday that would come with a matchup against either Nick Diaz or Georges St-Pierre.
