Masvidal explains his side of story in Usman altercation
Jorge Masvidal says his verbal altercation with UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman was "just another Wednesday" of "me running into haters and people talking shit."
The confrontation between Masvidal and Usman took place Wednesday afternoon at Super Bowl radio row in Miami and was caught on camera.
"I just told him, I go, 'Man, you've been talking a lot of shit, saying this and that. I'm gonna straight up say it to your face ... I'm gonna f--- you up,'" Masvidal told Ariel Helwani's MMA Show just minutes after the altercation.
"I just don't like Usman. If I could have altercations with him every day, I wouldn't mind."
Masvidal said he couldn't remember exactly what Usman said in response, and that neither of them touched each other. The footage shows they were quickly separated.
"What is he gonna do in a scenario like that? Nothing but look down and have to take a seat," Masvidal said. "He's a punk. He did a lot of screaming and stuff and shouting ... There was no need for him to overreact like that. He's just sensitive. He doesn't like the truth."
Masvidal said he chose not to touch Usman because "The Nigerian Nightmare" was wearing a cast. Usman is dealing with a thumb injury from his UFC 245 win over Colby Covington last month.
"Gamebred" is currently without an opponent for his next fight. He's made it clear his first choice would be Conor McGregor, but he'd happily take Usman if the McGregor fight isn't an option.
However, Masvidal doesn't think Wednesday's altercation necessarily guarantees he'll fight Usman next.
"If he gets it now, tomorrow, or 10 years from now, it doesn't really matter to me," Masvidal said. "There's bounties on everybody's head in my division."
