Lee may not fight for 'a few years' after UFC Brasilia loss
After his UFC Brasilia defeat, Kevin Lee said he plans to take an extended period of time off.
"The Motown Phenom" lost to Charles Oliveira by third-round submission in Saturday's lightweight main event, dropping to 1-3 in his past four fights.
"I'm gonna take a long time," Lee said following the bout, according to MMA Fighting. "I kind of rushed into this fight. It'll probably be a good minute before y'all see me again."
Lee added: "I think I gotta evaluate some things. I felt like my camp was great. My coaches told me all the right things to do. I abandoned it. It's all on me on this one. So, yeah, it's gonna be maybe a few years or so."
Lee also missed weight for the contest, tipping the scale at 158.5 pounds, 2.5 pounds over the lightweight limit. This was the second time the 27-year-old came in heavy during his UFC career.
"It was very unprofessional on my part," Lee said. "I will say that. I could've approached it a whole lot better. Coming down here all the way to Brazil on not necessarily short notice, but I maybe should've gave myself more time to prepare for this fight."
The Tristar product said he ran out of time Friday morning, which led to the weight miss. He also didn't bring a dietitian to Brazil, as he thought the UFC would "cover that a little bit more," Lee said.
"I can't do nothing but apologize and just blame myself," Lee said.
Lee said he plans to stay at lightweight. In 2019, he fought once at welterweight, but a loss to Rafael dos Anjos prompted his return to 155 pounds.
