UFC Fight Night: Blaydes vs. Volkov odds, best bet
UFC Fight Night takes place Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas and will feature a heavyweight bout between Curtis Blaydes and Alexander Volkov.
Here's one top play, as well as full odds for the event from theScore Bet.
Curtis Blaydes (-400) / Roosevelt Roberts (-230)
$100 parlay to win $79.35
Blaydes is a terrible matchup for Volkov, and he'll likely get the job done with ease.
"Razor" is arguably the best wrestler in the heavyweight division, and he has the tools to maul his opponents with ground-and-pound if he gets into a dominant position. The 29-year-old's striking game has drastically improved, which he proved with his standing knockout of former champ Junior dos Santos in January.
Volkov, meanwhile, is one of the tallest fighters in the promotion at 6-foot-7, and he uses his range to pick apart his opponents on the feet. But in the smaller Octagon (25 feet across instead of 30) being used at this particular venue, "Drago" won't be able to do that.
This is a competitive fight in the sense that Volkov's strong suit is as impressive as Blaydes'. But stylistically, Volkov will struggle to keep Blaydes off him, and that's why he's such a big underdog. Even in the regular-sized cage, the Russian contender has displayed iffy takedown defense in the past.
I like Blaydes to get hold of Volkov early and often and finish the 31-year-old with a TKO on the ground midway through the five-round headliner.
The other half of the parlay sees rising lightweight prospect Roosevelt Roberts take on veteran Jim Miller, who's set to make his 35th UFC appearance.
Miller is well past his prime, while Roberts has shown in five fights with the UFC that he's bound to be a contender one day. Miller's veteran savvy could be a factor, but I ultimately favor the youth of Roberts.
The 26-year-old, who's talented in both the striking and grappling department, will be quicker than Miller on the feet. That will allow him to unload a greater amount of offense against his 36-year-old foe. Miller has always had a granite chin, so I'm not sure Roberts will be able to finish him as easily as he beat Brok Weaver earlier in June. But in terms of winning the fight, that won't matter.
While he's used to finishing his fights, Roberts has shown in past performances that he can also win via decision. Miller has great submissions if he gets you on the ground, so Roberts would be wise to keep this one standing. He should be able to do that, and I like him in this spot to pick up the biggest win of his career.
