White, Ngannou's agent get heated over interim title
The UFC's decision to create an interim heavyweight title led to a heated exchange between UFC president Dana White and Francis Ngannou's agent on social media.
Agent Marquel Martin said in a statement he was "shocked" the promotion booked an Aug. 7 interim title fight between Derrick Lewis and Ciryl Gane, as Ngannou had reportedly agreed to defend the undisputed belt against Lewis in September.
White responded to Martin's statement in an Instagram comment, calling the agent "full of shit" before saying he wishes Ngannou would find new management.
Martin fired back at the UFC president, confirming Ngannou was on board for a fight in September. He also suggested White may not like that Ngannou is represented by Creative Artists Agency, a direct competitor of UFC parent company Endeavor.
Ngannou appeared to approve his manager's comments, responding with a "100" emoji.
The UFC was discussing a heavyweight title fight between Ngannou and Lewis for June and then August, but the promotion moved on from the matchup after the reigning champion was reportedly unavailable to compete during those months.
Ngannou spent all of May in his native Cameroon and returned to the United States in early June. He beat Stipe Miocic in March to win the heavyweight title.
