Kayla Harrison re-signs with PFL despite reported offers from UFC, Bellator
One of the hottest free agents in mixed martial arts is off the market.
Kayla Harrison has re-signed with the PFL on a multi-year deal, the promotion announced Tuesday.
Harrison re-upped with the PFL despite offers from the UFC and Bellator, according to ESPN's Marc Raimondi.
Bellator made her a significant offer, but the PFL exercised its right to match the deal. Meanwhile, the UFC also put a contract on the table for Harrison, but it paled in comparison to the other offers, sources told Raimondi.
Harrison's manager, Ali Abdelaziz, claimed she's now the highest-paid women's MMA fighter of all time, according to TSN's Aaron Bronsteter.
Harrison's PFL contract expired last October after she defeated Taylor Guardado by submission at PFL 10 to become a two-time women's lightweight champion in the promotion.
The 31-year-old is set to compete in the 2022 season, which kicks off April 20, in hopes of defending her belt and becoming a three-time titleholder. Harrison will also take part in the PFL's newly launched "pay-per-view super fight division," per a press release.
Abdelaziz told Bronsteter he's confident a highly anticipated matchup between Harrison and Bellator women's featherweight champion Cris Cyborg will take place in late 2022 or early 2023. The manager believes it'll happen either through a PFL-Bellator co-promotion or Cyborg signing with the PFL after her Bellator contract expires in the near future.
Harrison doesn't yet have an opponent for her first fight of 2022. The PFL will unveil its regular-season schedule in the coming weeks.
A two-time Olympic gold medalist in judo, Harrison carries a perfect 12-0 record in mixed martial arts, with 11 of her 12 fights coming in the PFL. She's won three of her last four fights in the first round.
