Poirier returns at UFC 299 vs. rising lightweight Saint-Denis
No. 3 lightweight contender Dustin Poirier will face the surging Benoit Saint-Denis at UFC 299 in the March 9 co-headliner from Miami, UFC CEO Dana White announced.
The bout will be contested over five rounds, White said.
Poirier is looking to rebound after a knockout loss to Justin Gaethje at UFC 291 last July. He defeated Michael Chandler in November 2022 prior to his meeting with Gaethje.
The 34-year-old veteran has gone toe-to-toe with numerous UFC stars in recent years, scoring two wins over Conor McGregor in 2021 while falling to Charles Oliveira in Dec. 2021.
Saint-Denis is coming off a statement victory against Matt Frevola at UFC 295 last November. Saint-Denis scored the win via first-round knockout after catching Frevola with a high kick to the head. His showing earned him UFC's performance of the evening honor.
Saint-Denis has won all five of his last fights with three coming by KO and two by submission.
The 28-year-old French fighter has developed a reputation for his ruthless fighting style and earned the nickname "God of War."
