- After dethroning quite possibly the greatest mixed martial artist of all time (twice), Middleweight kingpin Chris Weidman cemented his place on top of the division with a five-round unanimous decision victory over Lyoto Machida at UFC 175. Weidman's next test comes in the form of Brazilian buzzsaw Vitor Belfort, who will take his best shot at Weidman in February.
- There's a logjam of fighters waiting for a title shot after Belfort. Grappling ace Ronaldo Souza will face former Olympian Yoel Romero at UFC 184, with a victory likely earning "Jacare" a chance to face the champion.
- Although it doesn't have any bearing on the Middleweight landscape, pound-for-pound great Anderson Silva will make his return to the Octagon against Nick Diaz at UFC 183. Silva horrifically broke his leg after Weidman checked his leg kick back in December of 2013.
