NBA Game Summary - Utah at LA Lakers

Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Alec Burks scored 24 points in 29-plus minutes off the bench to lead the Utah Jazz past the injury-ridden Los Angeles Lakers 96-79 on Tuesday.

Gordon Hayward totaled 15 points, eight rebounds and seven assists as Utah avoided a letdown following its surprising win over the Heat on Saturday.

Chris Kaman led Los Angeles with 25 points and 14 boards, but it wasn't enough as the club dropped its sixth straight at home -- tying a dubious franchise record.

The already-hobbled Lakers saw Steve Nash, playing his fourth game after missing 39 because of a nerve problem in his back, aggravate the injury in the second quarter and miss the entire second half.

Steve Blake and Kendall Marshall also tweaked injuries for the Lakers, who were within six, 75-69, early in the fourth before Utah pulled away with a 10-3 run.

Burks' layup off one of Los Angeles' 11 turnovers capped the stretch, and the visitors poured it on over the final four minutes.

The Lakers dominated the first quarter with a 19-0 run but followed up their fast start by scoring just 10 points the entire second frame.

The cold stretch caused LA's 27-16 lead to quickly evaporate.

Utah went in front at 32-30 on a Hayward bucket with 4:19 to go before halftime, and seven consecutive points in the final minute -- the last two on Hayward free throws after he was fouled with 0.1 seconds on the clock -- sent Utah into the break with a 48-37 advantage.

The big swings continued in the third, and although the Jazz went the first six-plus minutes without a field goal, they still never gave up the lead.

LA was within one, 53-52, and never got over the hump. Utah scored the final six points of the quarter and took a 68-60 edge to the fourth.
